Scary stories from a lovely place

Eye on Jozi

The weather has been absolutely glorious in Joburg of late. Hot, balmy days. Wooly white clouds on a cerulean sky. Late afternoon thunderstorms. Colourful sunsets. Cool nights.

As if all of that wasn’t enough today the blazing sun is encircled by a ring of fire. It’s a circle of dark, dark blue with flecks of fire coloured light beaming out from beneath the ring. And the blinding sun standing proudly in the middle looking like a popped navel on a pregnant belly or the seed of an avocado. My neighbour just said it looks like God is looking down on us, like Sauron from Lord of the Rings.

Apparently it’s caused by ice crystals sitting heavily in the highest clouds. The refracted light causes the ring. It speaks of rain to come.

Wow… cool! sounds like the weather over your side is better then over here… here we can’t get a handle on if it’s going to be hot and sunny or cold and rainy, confusing.
